Throwback Weekend Filled with New Memories

After another productive and enjoyable weekend home I find myself back on my couch leaning against a sleeping Mur while watching one of my favorite shows on the Speed channel, The Barret- Jackson Car Auction. It's always so interesting to see the various assortment of cars, trucks and other motorized vehicles they bring together to be auctioned off to the few eager car collectors that can afford to be there. Oh, whenever the auction off the charity car I always cry. I hope that I have the privilege of attending one in the future. That would be fun.

But that's enough about cars, for now. After a rough start to work on Friday that involved a Chinese food related emergency and a ride home from work that proved nothing less than a struggle I made it home to eat some dinner which was then followed by passing out on the couch. Eating and passing out, however, were not my original plans I had for Friday believe it or not. I had the greatest intentions of leaving work, coming home, packing a bag, grabbing a snack and then quickly leaving to be on my way home to help continue packing, moving and cleaning. But, as I said before, it did not pan out this way. So, instead, after I woke from my unplanned nap I went to bed with the new intention to wake early the next morning to start the 3 hour journey home.

Saturday worked a little better than Friday. After arriving around 9 and having a quick chat with Mom and Al, I crossed the street to help clean and set up the 'Brody Area'. Several boxes of toys later it has become unmistakable, when you walk in, as to what part of the house is Brody Lee's. Later that night, while out pulling weeds with Mom-Mom, Samara came home!! It was so nice to see her!! In lieu of her coming home everyone came together to feast on two different kinds of chicken and mashed potatoes while enjoying a glass of wine. Between bites of food and the occasional sip of wine stories were exchanged and laughter ensued. Despite the unseasonably nippy weather outside the house felt warm and we all felt and knew it was good to be home.

After dinner Jeff and I ran to the liquor store to obtain the much talked about and anticipated Mojito's!! Once back we of course thought what would be a true family gathering in the summer at Aunt Susie's house without a bonfire?? If you said that it just wouldn't be then you are correct. So as quickly as it took to gather things to burn each person was marching up the hill, hands full, and ready to get our fire on. Old checks, power point presentations and several pieces of wood later we had an awesome roaring fire. This of course was not done without the usual techniques of aggressive fire starting where we all...and when I say we all, I mean me...am throwing unsafe amounts of paper and wood in the pit to make the fire as large as possible. Yes, there may have been a few times in which a random flaming piece of paper would fly out and I would have to go chasing it with 'the stick of might' but hey, who doesn't have a bonfire without that occasionally happening?? Exactly, no one. Anyway, getting back to the story. Once the fire was in full swing we went back down to the house to gather some drinks, reminisce about 'butt wars', and swing each other around to the tune of the hamster dance. I never thought there would be a time or place where I felt like I was 14 all over again let alone that I would love every second of it.

Around 11:30 Lauryn came home and joined, while carrying chicken, up at the bonfire. This of course led to more story telling, reminiscing and laughing. After another hour everyone was getting tired so we all decided it was time to get headed to bed. But alas!! What about the fire? Due to my getting carried away to get the thing going it was still buring at a fairly large size with no intention to burning itself out in the near future. So, since I was the one who started it, I was the one who was unanimously voted to stay out and keep an eye on it with little more than a few blanks to cuddle in until it finally burned out. As everyone gathered their respective belongings I walked down and up the hill 3 times with buckets of water. I'll be damn if I be the one who's left out there by myself. I remember what some, still unidentified animal, did to Aunt Susie's wicker patio furniture. Let's just say I was less than anxious to be the subject of a similar story.

Then Sunday, which was today, the aunt and the girls decided they were going to church and the 'little family' still had packing to do so that left me once again with nothing to do or help with. So, after showering, doing some picking in the garden and saying my good-byes to the family I was off to Elmira once again.

It was, once again, a great weekend.

Once back Marcus and I snacked around the house for lunch and then went to see 'Bad Teacher'. It was a good movie. However, with that said, I think that the commercials/ trailers pretty much tell the entire movie. I hate it when that happens!! :-( But now we are back, Marcus is in bed, my lunch is made for work tomorrow and this blog entry is pretty much complete. With that said, good-night bloggers and I will talk to you all soon.
