Untitled

I don't remember why I moved here. I fucking hate this place. If I wanted to be this lonely and bored I would have moved to some place I actually want to live. I'm so glad that I only get to see the reason as to why I moved up here in the first place for about 5 hours a week. The rest of it is spent driving to and working at a job that pays like shit, is really far away and involves doing something I loathe/ despise/ abhor doing. Furthermore, I'm glad that I spent every last penny I had to move up here and make this empty house a home. So it would be accurate to say that I'm broke, lonely, pissed off and sad. All. The. Time. Again, I don't remember why I moved here.

Police, Residents, and The Air Force. Oh My!!

The request has been made for me to write about my new job and all the experiences that come with it. Well my friends lets not waste anymore time jibber-jabbering.

To read about my first days at work you will need to check back in my blog archive. Let's rewind back to Monday. Hmm Monday, Monday, Monday..Oh right, Monday!! Ok, so I was partnered with a girl named Jess who reminded me a lot of Lauryn. Why you may ask?? Because of her mannerisms of course. She sweet, cheery, and always laughing at the residents unexpected comments and quirks. It was an enjoyable day.

Yesterday...well that is a different story. First, the day started off with me wanting an extra 10 minutes of sleep. I didn't think it was going to be that big of a deal because come on, it's 4 in the fucking morning for gods sake. Anyway, of course I didn't get anything ready the night before because I was asleep by 7:45 so that was yet another thing that set me back. At about 5:15 I finally hit the road. Now with my leaving late I fully expected for it to rain, because that's what always happens. Well, it drizzled but didn't rain like I expected. Thank god because this would have made my passing cars and speeding a lot harder to do. In retrospect I wish that it did rain yesterday. I would have rather been late and had the threat of being fired or written up to deal with than what ended up happening. Going back to the speeding..so there the silver bullet and I go cruising at the cool speeds between 70-80 miles per hour until we finally reach our destination. I have exactly 2 minutes to gather my stuff and run inside before I am completely late. But wait, someone has pulled up right behind my car, stopped and is getting out. Immediately noticing this, I look in my mirror to see the one word written backwards that I can read unmistakeably. Police. Oh fucking great, good-bye 2 minute window of safety. Here he comes with my door open, my one leg hanging out of the car as I was just about to sprint inside and Mr. Policeman asks me something to the effect of, 'Where do you think you're going so fast back there?'. This is the moment of truth, it really depends on the 'where' he was referring to. I could blab out the truth and admit the guilt of the fastest speed I attained or I could beg and plead for him to let me go. Guess which route I chose?? That's right, begging and pleading and rambling a million excuses. When I finished he still asked for all my information. Damn it. Oh well...I always get tickets, nothing new here. Exactly 2 minutes later he came back with everything I just gave him but wait! Where is the all too familiar clipboard they force in my direction to acquire my John Hancock?? Let his response do the explaining and I quote, 'Make sure you watch your speed because next time it's going to cost you hundreds'. OMG!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS??? THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Of course this was the time that I just broke down and cried. I was about to jump up and give him a hug but then I figured don't risk a possible charge of assaulting a police officer. That and I saw that he was packing a taser.

Moving on..

Now that I'm finally in work it went as well as possible. I was partnered with a woman name Teressa. Let me put this woman into perspective. She considers herself as retired and is only working to give herself something to do since her husband died in the mid-nineties. Aside from working to occupy her free time, she is incredibly sweet and is about 2 feet shorter than me. Yup, I felt like a giant ALL day. Oh, and the people who I work with and my residents all thought they were funny when the two of us were standing side by side and then commenting, 'well, that is the long and short of it'. You know, that gets funnier and funnier every time I hear it. Yup, even after the 100th time that day. Despite all of this it was a smooth running day.

On a separate note, I don't think that I have ever missed my last job as much as I did yesterday. Getting paid almost double to sit on my ass all day to play with kids while praising or yelling at them. Sigh..

Now let's get to the part of my job that makes it all worth while, my residents (while keeping in mind and respecting HIPPA rules and regulations).
-Of course my favorite residents and the people that I have become closest too are those who were identified to me as being the mean and most difficult residents to work with. With this said, they are constantly stopping me in the hallway asking when I am going to be there Nurse again. <3 I imagine when and if I ever end up in a nursing home that I will be and act the same way they do. Full of piss and vinegar only showing my sweet and caring side to a lucky few.
- And...OF COURSE I attract the attention of the few male residents that I have welcoming, unwillingly, the following comments:
*- I want a slice of her!! (directed at me from a male resident while bringing another resident in the dinning room for lunch)
*- You. (The answer I was given after asking a resident what he would like to watch on television.
*- When I was younger I used to think that tall girls were ugly. Now that I'm older the taller they are   the more beautiful I see them. That's why I keep asking if you got a little taller everyday I see you. Because I think you get more and more beautiful. (This was the response to the question I asked him about why he keeps asking if I got taller).
*- I have a resident, who also happens to be one of the most difficult, who is a hoarder.
*- One woman is hungry ALL THE TIME. So I give her snacks ALL THE TIME and get yelled at for it. The woman is hungry, I'm not gonna be the one who starves her. Plus, I'm only giving her Total so she's just gonna poop it out in about an hour anyway.
*- Yesterday while feeding one of my residents who is highly distracted I made up and started singing a song about mashed potatoes to keep her attention. This allowed me to give her only 2 bites but also resulted in another random resident to learn the 'mashed potato song' and start singing with me.
*- I have another woman who I did everything, with the exception of standing on my head, to convince her to go down to the dinning room to join in with the birthday party. When she finally agreed to go she asked if I was this relentless when it came to convincing my husband to marry me. I told her no, I'm trying to convince my boyfriend as to why he shouldn't marry me. This made her laugh.
...But that's enough resident talk for one day. In other news...

Marcus has finally gotten in contact with the Air Force recruiter again and has gotten more information on when to take the officers entrance exam and the physical requirements to be admitted. This has spurred him into fast track fitness training 101. Run, Run, Run Mur!!

Me, on the other hand, am still looking for another job. Anything closer. While waiting for responses from future potential employers I am busying myself with hanging lavender to dry from Aunt Z's garden and making cookies for the guys upstairs to thank them for watering our plants the week Marcus and I were out of town. Today though, as my last day off for the next four days, I am being a lazy ass on the couch watching ANTM and blogging until I get up enough motivation to shower before Marcus comes home and we go out for wings of the chicken!! My favorite!! Yumm!!!

Looking for a good comedy to watch?? I would recommend 'Just Go With It' Staring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Want another good comedy to watch but only have the time to watch one that is allowed by a trailer?? Then watch 'Bad Teacher' staring Cameron Diaz. All the greatest scenes are shown are spoiled before you even make it to the theater. But don't take my word for it..

TaTa for now!!

Throwback Weekend Filled with New Memories

After another productive and enjoyable weekend home I find myself back on my couch leaning against a sleeping Mur while watching one of my favorite shows on the Speed channel, The Barret- Jackson Car Auction. It's always so interesting to see the various assortment of cars, trucks and other motorized vehicles they bring together to be auctioned off to the few eager car collectors that can afford to be there. Oh, whenever the auction off the charity car I always cry. I hope that I have the privilege of attending one in the future. That would be fun.

But that's enough about cars, for now. After a rough start to work on Friday that involved a Chinese food related emergency and a ride home from work that proved nothing less than a struggle I made it home to eat some dinner which was then followed by passing out on the couch. Eating and passing out, however, were not my original plans I had for Friday believe it or not. I had the greatest intentions of leaving work, coming home, packing a bag, grabbing a snack and then quickly leaving to be on my way home to help continue packing, moving and cleaning. But, as I said before, it did not pan out this way. So, instead, after I woke from my unplanned nap I went to bed with the new intention to wake early the next morning to start the 3 hour journey home.

Saturday worked a little better than Friday. After arriving around 9 and having a quick chat with Mom and Al, I crossed the street to help clean and set up the 'Brody Area'. Several boxes of toys later it has become unmistakable, when you walk in, as to what part of the house is Brody Lee's. Later that night, while out pulling weeds with Mom-Mom, Samara came home!! It was so nice to see her!! In lieu of her coming home everyone came together to feast on two different kinds of chicken and mashed potatoes while enjoying a glass of wine. Between bites of food and the occasional sip of wine stories were exchanged and laughter ensued. Despite the unseasonably nippy weather outside the house felt warm and we all felt and knew it was good to be home.

After dinner Jeff and I ran to the liquor store to obtain the much talked about and anticipated Mojito's!! Once back we of course thought what would be a true family gathering in the summer at Aunt Susie's house without a bonfire?? If you said that it just wouldn't be then you are correct. So as quickly as it took to gather things to burn each person was marching up the hill, hands full, and ready to get our fire on. Old checks, power point presentations and several pieces of wood later we had an awesome roaring fire. This of course was not done without the usual techniques of aggressive fire starting where we all...and when I say we all, I mean me...am throwing unsafe amounts of paper and wood in the pit to make the fire as large as possible. Yes, there may have been a few times in which a random flaming piece of paper would fly out and I would have to go chasing it with 'the stick of might' but hey, who doesn't have a bonfire without that occasionally happening?? Exactly, no one. Anyway, getting back to the story. Once the fire was in full swing we went back down to the house to gather some drinks, reminisce about 'butt wars', and swing each other around to the tune of the hamster dance. I never thought there would be a time or place where I felt like I was 14 all over again let alone that I would love every second of it.

Around 11:30 Lauryn came home and joined, while carrying chicken, up at the bonfire. This of course led to more story telling, reminiscing and laughing. After another hour everyone was getting tired so we all decided it was time to get headed to bed. But alas!! What about the fire? Due to my getting carried away to get the thing going it was still buring at a fairly large size with no intention to burning itself out in the near future. So, since I was the one who started it, I was the one who was unanimously voted to stay out and keep an eye on it with little more than a few blanks to cuddle in until it finally burned out. As everyone gathered their respective belongings I walked down and up the hill 3 times with buckets of water. I'll be damn if I be the one who's left out there by myself. I remember what some, still unidentified animal, did to Aunt Susie's wicker patio furniture. Let's just say I was less than anxious to be the subject of a similar story.

Then Sunday, which was today, the aunt and the girls decided they were going to church and the 'little family' still had packing to do so that left me once again with nothing to do or help with. So, after showering, doing some picking in the garden and saying my good-byes to the family I was off to Elmira once again.

It was, once again, a great weekend.

Once back Marcus and I snacked around the house for lunch and then went to see 'Bad Teacher'. It was a good movie. However, with that said, I think that the commercials/ trailers pretty much tell the entire movie. I hate it when that happens!! :-( But now we are back, Marcus is in bed, my lunch is made for work tomorrow and this blog entry is pretty much complete. With that said, good-night bloggers and I will talk to you all soon.

A collection..

While on-line, taking pictures and reading I have made a collection of things I find interesting and really like. Here are just a few.

"We cannot rank Penn State University against other schools in the party category because we feel it is unfair to rank professionals against amateurs" -Playboy

"Children broken by the world become the adults most likely to change it"
-Frank Warren
"To live would be an awfully big adventure"- Peter Pan
'Some people believe in god, I believe in music. Some people pray, I turn up the radio.'
"Love Well and Live Courageous"
-A. C. Grayling (The Good Book: A Humanist Bible)
Richard Hammond is by far the best.

To be continued...

If 4am Makes You Taste Like gravy, then what does 3am make you taste like??

At last!! After 4 months of unemployment I had my first day of work. Given that it's for a job that I don't need my 4 year degree to be hired as well as a job that will be the ultimate demise for my already bad back, but hey, I'm getting paid again!!!!! For this reason, and only this reason, I found the willpower to wake at 4:15 this morning so as to leave at 5 to arrive on time at 6. Oy vey, it was a long morning.

With a cup of coffee in my hand, a twice baked potato in my purse and a bottle of seltzer I was off! Cruising at the swift speed of 75 in grandpa Subaru while rocking out to some Foo Fighters I finally arrived in Wellsboro. Wasting no time, once inside, I was brought up to listen to report and be partnered with a woman named Debbie who would be my key to the Green Home. At this point let me just say that Debbie is no joke. That woman had me running up and down the North and South wing to help in her giving care to our various residents while also picking up a few extra residents due to a CNA 'no showing'. (I later found out that this particular person was a regular when it came to both calling out and failing to show up when scheduled). While running the North/South marathon I did not even have time to count the number of people we were caring for. Around 1:15, while charting, it was brought to my attention that our final resident count that we took care of was 17. No wonder I was sweating to the point that my bangs were sticking to my head. On a separate note I was complimented several times on my brand new cute scrubs. Thank you to my very own 'queer eye from the straight guy'!

So what all did I do today?? Well since you asked..
-Bathed people
- Met people
- Dressed people
- Learned people's quirks
- Fed people
- Got covered in gravy
- Talked to people
- Soothed about 4 older women that were crying (all for various reasons)
- Told the entire floor when and where the afternoon treats of root beer floats were going to take place.
- Assisted in breaking up a fight between two women
- Charted, charted and charted
- Went to DD and got an ice coffee and a doughnut

So that was pretty much my entire day. Hectic at times but glad that I'm home now. I was surprised by Mur's semi-planned treat to get Chinese!! Totally gorged myself followed by passing out not even 5 minutes after I was finished eating. Luckily I woke up in time to share an ice cream soda. :-)

So, all in all the general consensus of today is..**drum roll please**..I need to go to Grad school. Which means..**dum*dum*dum**..studying and taking the GRE's.

This weekend.
A big move is in the midst. Aunt Susie is doing some cleaning up and out and Lauryn, Jeff, and Brody are moving on up and in. Originally, due to circumstances beyond my control, I was not going to move in. However, due to a wonderful boyfriend I will now be able come home. Tomorrow. When I'm done with work. So, tomorrow I will attend day 2 of work and then venture home to start/ continue the cleaning with the fam.

Well until tomorrow..before Lauryn jumps through my phone and puts me in a choke hold due to my slow process of posting.

Sorry Lauryn!! Hope you enjoyed reading the 2 most recent!! :-)

Just remember the safe word..

Long time no blog post. For this I apologize. It was never my intention to go this amount of time without posting at least something. Well without further adieu let us get down to business.

First, a lot has happened in...21 days. Oh my, I can't really believe it myself. Second, I will try my best to try and organize the events that have come to pass in a clear and concise manner so as not to embarrass myself to illogical thinking as well as to keep you entertained. Further, and on a separate note, one of the reasons why I have not been able to post in the limited time that I did have available to me is because I, for lack of another phrase, cannot force my writing genius. With this said I in NO WAY consider to be a genius in any way. I simply say this, again, for lack of a better way of getting my point across to you.

June 4 and 5.
Talk about a long day. Starting at 12am on Sunday Marcus and I left on the 3 hour journey to Buffalo. Why? To drop Murry face off at the airport for his business/vacation trip. We arrived around 4 and I hung around with him for about half an hour before making the returning journey home in the early hours of the morning. After arriving home at 7 I took a power nap until 8 at which time I had to shower before meeting up with Steve and Bobby Jo. (Due to possessing such a long name Bobby Jo will, until further notice, be refereed to as BJ). After quickly getting ready I made the fun twisty, curvy drive through bum-fuck Pennsylvania to Steve's house. Upon arrival I was greeted with Steve, BJ, 2 of BJ's kids and the one kids girlfriend. After an extremely..interesting.. drive to Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre in which yelling, arguing and awkward silence ensued we finally arrived. Once there we got our tickets, to our box seats (!!!), I sat down and continued to sit in one of the most uncomfortable situations in my life. Due to other more interesting stories that I want to get to, let me make this short. Bullet points short..
- I was left ALONE for half an hour with BJ's family while Steve, BJ and the kids went to go get food. I was not told they were doing this so I assumed I was just abandoned.
- BJ introduced the family to me at which time she pointed toward specific people indicating that they were retarded. And no, she didn't not mean that in a way that they were quirky and sometimes overly silly. Nope, she meant it as in these people have developmental disabilities.
- As the game went on the more drunk her family got. The more drunk they got, the more loud they got. The more loud they got the more racist they got. The more racist they got the more embarrassed and uncivilized I felt.
^--This is about the same time that my phone battery died and I was left to survive this family on my own.
- When the game finally ended a quick pit stop was made at BK before finally arriving home.
- Once back at Steve's I stayed and talked until about 9 before going home and passing out as result of being up for more than 48 hours.
** I would like to send out a very big THANK YOU to my dear friend Tiffany for being there to text during this interesting day**

<--These are 2 of the 'retarded' cousins that I was told about.

That Monday.
After sleeping for 12+ hours I woke up and decided that I was too lazy to get my sorry ass off the couch. So, for some motivation and to give myself something to do, I started texting some of my favorite friends at home. After about 4 hours of packing and organizing I was on my way. Once home I met up with Tiff and Adam for ice cream at Gables. Good ice cream, good friends and good conversation. Who would need more let alone ask for more.

4 bags and counting...I hope I don't forget anything!! Oh wait, silly me!! There is the kitchen sink I wanted to bring along!!

Tuesday through Thursday.
This time was spent with the family. Mostly helping Mom-Mom in the garden and visiting with Lauryn, Brody and Mom. Good times, lots of pictures and much needed conversation catch up.

After helping 'The Mama' hang up some clothing, Mr. Lee brought me the empty bag. He then took one of my flip-flops put it in the bag and ran off.

Friday.
It's FINALLY time to spend some time with the girls!! Much anticipated and exciting. The weekend started out with meeting Tiff and Crystal at the Velez house and then departing from there. After making a quick pit stop for gas we were on our way!! We made it to our destination in about 2 hours at which time we quickly dressed for the beach and then lounged in the sun until around 5pm when the beach closed. Once off the beach a unanimous decision was made to walk the boardwalk in search of some food. With full bellies and content with the amount of sun we were able to soak up earlier that afternoon we went back to the room where Crystal took a quick nap while Tiff and I ran to the store to get some goodies to snack on.

Later that night.
We all started getting ready to go out when Dee arrived. After exchanging hugs and stories over drinks, cheez-its and Dorito's we finished getting ready and left to go to our favorite Seaside club, Bamboo. After a fish bowl, a run in with a bouncer and an alligator named Paco later we each managed to make it home in different ways.
I understand that wasn't an adequate enough description so let me revert back to my preferred medium to illustrate the nights events.

This pretty much sums up the night in regards to drinks that were had. Or maybe I should stop kidding myself and say, these are the drinks that had us.

Crystal loving herself some Paco!! He came in the fish bowl and was the 'man' for the weekend. Even in her extremely inebriated state she maintained a death grip on him.
Soon after this there was a drink thrown over the railing and a visit from one of the bouncers.

Saturday.
Let's be realistic, Friday blended into Saturday. While we're being realistic, let's be honest. I can't really tell you what all happened in the early hours of Saturday morning. Actually, I may know more than I let on but why would I want to give away all the greatest secrets of girls weekend?? Moving on, Saturday we discovered Tiff lost her clutch, which we later recovered from the bar after the staff was done cleaning up from the previous nights festivities. We also managed to recover her lost pair of shoes as well as go to navigate a local PNC bank so the weekend could continue without interruption. The plan for the remainder of the day was to go lay on the beach but because of the chilly and drizzly weather we ended up having lunch on the boardwalk followed by going back to the room to sleep off our food induced comas.

Saturday Night.
Once again we went through the routine of getting ready while entertaining the idea of alternate ways that we could make money. And when I say we I mean Dee and me. No further explanation is needed. See example below.

Ah yes...good times.

Anyway, while we were out and about we tried out Karma which sucked a lot to say the least so we ended up going back to bamboo for the second night in a row. Once there we saw the same bouncer from the first night, Crystal almost fought a guy that wouldn't leave her alone of the dance floor, Dee got a Bamboo bouncers T-shirt, I picked up a black guy, more pictures were taken and Tiff managed to not lose anything. All in all I would say Saturday was a success!! :-) See for yourself.

There is our bouncer and some jackass making a fucking stupid face behind Crystal and Dee. -->

<-- Okay, I'm not really sure why this uploaded sideways but this is Dee and her bouncer shirt.

Sunday.
We woke up after only getting about 3 hours of sleep each gathering all of our things and packing the car. After the cars were packed we went on the hunt for parking and then some breakfast. Due to the shitty weather on Saturday the initial plan was to wait around until it warmed up and then spend the majority of the rest of the day on the beach. This, of course, did not happen. Once again the weather decided to not work in our favor remaining to be a bitch and cold. This did not put a damper on our day however. Instead, we walked up and down the boardwalk talking about the antics of the weekend and future girls weekends. Around 3:30 we parted ways so as to avoid rush hour traffic. It was a good weekend.

Now, pay me some patience and allow me to fast forward to a few days ago.
Just recently there has been a change in my extended family dynamic. Everyone is still living, which is really the only important fact that need to be and will be shared. However, with this change I have had the opportunity to go home and repay some much needed love and support that was given to me, unconditionally, about 10 years ago. In conjunction with this, this recent event has also allowed me to catch up with certain family members to share stories, secrets, fears and a smoke or two. With that said this is definitely the start of a new chapter for every person in my family.

The job.
So tomorrow is my first day at my new job. I'm really unsure what I think about it but I do promise to make a post about how it goes tomorrow. As of right now the only thing that I'm really excited about tomorrow is that I get to wear my new scrubs. It should be good though. I took the class, I used to be in nursing school, I like old people so it should run smoothly...right??

With that I feel like this specific blog post is long enough...until tomorrow?

Power chair bumper cars

Let us not play this game, shall we? Especially when my future job involves me working in a nursing home where 98% percent of the population that lives there has and uses a power chair/ power scooter.

This morning Grandpa Subaru (Marcus's car) and I went for a galabant around the countryside to get to Wellsboro so I could fill out some paperwork for my new job. This would have been a lot more fun if I wasn't stuck behind every slow driver/ dump truck both on my way there and on the way back. Anyway, while on my hour long commute I was still able to enjoy the rolling landscape of complete nothingness while also passing a few grazing cows. Once in Wellsboro, however, I was slowed down to almost a complete stop due to continuing construction and then when I was able to go forward Grandpa Power Scooter shoots out in front of me!! Come on now, this isn't a carnival. When I hit you you will not merely bounce off with the sound of our conjoined laughter leading up to another harmless bump. No. This is the real world. I hit you, you die. Simple as that. And yes, I may have been going a little too quickly as result of building frustration due to being made to sit for extended periods of time when I have places to go and people to see. Also, Grandpa power scooter wasn't even in or near a cross walk. So for all intensive purposes it can be said that he was 'jay-scooting'. But to move on..

Once I finally arrived I went through the usual mounds of paperwork, signing my name 10 thousand times, and pee in the cup routine. After that I was put through the usual physical malarkey of taking deep breaths, poke around my abdomen and standing on your toes skit. This I feel doctors do only to a certain extent to complete the physical. The rest of the time you are there just for entertainment purposes. You know, to see what they can make you do and what they can get away with while still deeming it necessary as part of the 'physical'. Really doctor? You want me to stand on my tip-toes for how long? 15 minutes? Are you sure this is necessary? Well, ok just so long as it means that I can pass my physical. Oy vey..

Finally, after the physical was done and over with I was sent next door to the building that I will actually be working in to fill out more paperwork and to obtain 3 paper cuts. After signing my name 10 thousand more times and sitting through the whole boring schpeel about insurance and prescription plans I was released to the hospital across the street so as to get my photo taken for my new work ID. I'm so glad I had it taken the week before my scheduled hair cut and not afterward when I can actually look half way decent. Roots that are showing and extra long bangs?? Awesome!!!

Once done I quickly left the hospital and came home, well as quick as the slow driver in front of me would allow. And now, I am regaling you with my Wellsboro tales. Hope it was as interesting to read about as it was for me to go through it.
