Birthday's and A New Neighbor

It's been too long since my last post, almost 6 days. A lot has happened, people have been visited and realizations made. Where do I begin? Lets work backwards.

Yesterday was Marcus's 24th birthday!! So while Mur was at work, I spent the day straightening up, listening to music and reading. Thankfully he got done with work early so we were able to have the celebratory birthday dinner of tacos and chocolate temptation cookies. So good!! After dinner it started thunder storming which was nice because it was FINALLY cooling it down outside but at the same time put a damper on my plans to go get ice cream. Thankfully, though, the rain did eventually slow down and stop allowing Marcus and I to go exploring, with the help of Google maps, for an ice cream stand. I almost forgot how nice it was and fun it is to get ice cream in the summer time!! On a semi-separate note, I don't care who you are, you are NEVER too old for rainbow sprinkles. Keep that tiny piece of your childhood alive!!

Going back to ice cream. So after the thunderstorm ended, like I said before, Marcus and I left to go get some ice cream. On our way out we were walking down our driveway to find our new neighbor standing on the back of his truck gathering boxes demonstrating he was in full 'move-in' mode. After greeting and inviting him to come along with us for ice cream he declined but made the suggestion that we could 'grab a beer later'. Now fast forward. We get back, run through the rain, gather beer and cookies and then go upstairs to knock on the door only for it not to be answered. After waiting an appropriate 2-3 minutes Mur and I went back downstairs to watch Glee and veg on the couch. About 15 minutes later we hear a knock on the door, open it up and guess what, its our new neighbor. He brought Bud Lite but don't worry, we quickly traded that in for a cold Samuel Adams out of the fridge. Through his visit here a few things that I learned: His name is Vick or Victor, he's cute, has a tribal tattoo on the upper part of his left arm, he can talk A LOT about his truck, he comes from what sounds to be a well off family, he's a pro-golfer, he'll only be living here until November when golf season will then be ending, and finally he is a great admirer of Marcus's birthday present and therefore is invited to dinner on occasion. Over all, I'm happy that we have a cool neighbor AND he's our age!! :-)

Now rewind a little bit but not too far that our neighbor hasn't visited us yet.

In the middle of our conversation we heard the door knob shifting and trying to be turned. Hearing this I get up and immediately lock the door while Marcus and Victor each grab a knife either from their pocket or the knife block. Once everyone was armed and therefore considered dangerous Vick was the brave soul who opened the door. And to much of our lack of surprise we found our neighbor, drunk, again. He was skunk drunk, trying to open the wrong unlocked door with his key and then accusing the three of us that we were in his apartment. Oh my goodness. I felt like I was having a flash back to college with that crazy drunker who came into the wrong apartment, the guys apartment, at three times. Each time thinking that he FINALLY made it home. Anyway, getting back to the story, he did finally leave and found his own home, which was directly across the hall, causing us to lock the door and double check that it was locked after he left. Crazy huh?

Well I think that's enough crazy for one day..And I didn't even get to blog about Easter weekend yet!! Don't worry though, it's coming!!

Corning Glass Museum and Interviews. As well as other Fragile things.

Tomorrow is 4/20-just in case you didn't know. Yesterday Marcus took me to the Corning museum of glass which was really interesting. After arriving we bought tickets that allowed us to tour the museum as well as to watch live glass blowing demonstrations. The museum was filled with interesting things to look at and read as you got to see the history of glass making evolve over several centuries and cultures. It was also interesting to see the works of modern glass artists. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself!

<-- This particular piece of artwork is called 'Knives on houses'. Those are little glass houses with glass knives that are hanging over them from the ceiling. There is something menacing about this particular glass creation but also something equally as intriguing. Totally my favorite thing I saw.

There were also several other exhibits at the museum that weren't so menacing to look at and consider.

This work is called glass dress with shawl. So beautiful to look and it really looks like someone is wearing the dress!! -->

Now of course what is a museum that doesn't have something for the kids to interact and have fun with!! And when I say kids, I mean for Marcus and myself. At the very end of the museum there is a section where they hold demonstrations on how fiber optics work, a computer program where they can help create glass through combining different elements off of the periodic table as well as to show how mirrors work. Tons of fun and of course I have pictures..

This is Mur 'developing' glass by combining elements off of the periodic table.

And finally this is Mur and I having a little bit too much fun with the mirrors before finally leaving :-) You all know you were thinking to do the same thing..

In other news..

Today I had my first job interview for the Elmira, NY area!! It was Arnot Ogden Medical Center as a HIV prevention coordinator. Of course I went shopping to prepare for it and of course Marcus came along to play on his phone while I relentlessly try on different outfits looking at myself in the mirror asking if I look alright. The shopping trip ended well despite the lack of insight Mur had toward each piece of clothing I tried on. It was an unusual shopping trip however because when I arrived they asked for my name to put on the dry erase board hanging on the dressing room door and it was already there. Then when I was done, Marcus pointed out that the dressing room door directly next to mine had the name 'Tiffany' written on it. I almost cried. I love living with Mur and despite the slow process of finding a job things have been going well but I really miss all the girls and the fam since moving up here. It's hard living so far away from the people who you were closest to and who I consider to be a big part of my support network. But after seeing that I knew that you guys really aren't that far away despite how much I miss you!

Anywho, I had my interview today and I should hear back about the first week in May if I got a second interview or not. So I have one week of waiting. Until then though I won't give up and will continue looking to hopefully find something.

Other than that Easter is on Sunday and I am planning on coming home either Thursday or Friday for some family and friend time. Marcus is going to spend Easter with his dad and his two brothers that are coming in from out of town which is great because he doesn't get to see them very often. His oldest brother is dating a new girl who is a vegetarian so I have been looked to, to come up with an acceptable meatless dish. Vegetable pot pie is what we have come up with but we want to try it out before making it for big bunny that lays the chocolate eggs day. So guess what we're having for dinner tonight...

Now off to cook while chasing and beating Mur with wooden spoons around the house :-) Wish him luck! hehe

Lounging By The Pool All Day Long

This of course was not what I did today, but instead was the answer to the Wheel of Fortune puzzle, I figured out, as confirmed by Mr. Pat Sajak himself. So as I sit on my futon, for yet another day, racking my brain to figure out Jeapordy trivia and Wheel of Fortune puzzles I can't help but realize how television is slowly taking over my life. With every spin of the wheel I am reminded that I can confidently but sadly say that I am up to date on 'Say Yes to the Dress', 'Project Runway', 'Four Weddings', 'The Daily Show', 'Cake Boss' and 'The Colbert Report'. God, I need a job!! I have been told by Marcus that he has become worried from consistently coming home and finding me watching wedding shows. I, however, quickly bring his concerns of me springing a wedding on him to a hault by telling him how many episodes of 'Snapped' I watched. Well, he was concerned!! Not anymore though. heheh! Anyway, I gotta go because celebrity apprentice is starting..

A Brief Introduction.

Wilkum to my first blog!! To start things off here is a brief introduction of somethings that may or may not be important.

Hi!! I'm Kayla. If it was up to me I would live off of mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, guacamole, and homemade baked goods. I grew up without television but surrounded by music, family and A LOT of good food. I really like learning and going school. I'd rather read text books, scholarly journal articles (that are extremely painful to get through) or power point presentations any day over works of fiction. I have read and seen all the Twilight books and movies thus far. And just because, Go Team Jacob!. I'm a too blunt and straight forward for some people. I've been called the 'squeaky wheel of the family'. I wish I could fly. College was the best time of my life. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. By the way, when are you considered to be grown up? My favorite time of day is when I make dinner with Mur and we watch the news together. I really miss all my friends from home and school. I have an unnatural fear of failure and success. My favorite thing to do with friends is drink wine or go for coffee and chat. My thinking spot is in my car. I have a strange attachment to inanimate objects that remind me of people and events from my past. My sisters are the two people who piss me off the most but know me the best. I am pro-choice. I got my first motorcycle as a graduation present. I have been told that I'm one of the easiest people to talk to. I want to travel the world before I'm too old to enjoy doing so. I'm not really sure of my thoughts or feelings on religion, but I believe we can all achieve Nirvana and God is like Alanis Morissette from Dogma. South Park, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report are probably my favorite shows. If I could have a maid, masseuse, or personal chef I would choose a chef. When mom-mom helped Marcus and I move into our apartment she arranged one of my cabinets so it looked just like hers, and because of that I didn't touch or move anything in there for the first month we lived up here. I'm addicted to Facebook. I have a dream of becoming a photographer and interior designer. Adolescence and high school was the worst time of my life. I have 4 tattoo's and my mom paid for 3 of them. I've always wanted brilliant red hair. My dream car is a Pontiac Firebird, Trans Am or Solstice. Sugar, butter and salt are my heroine.

So there you go, and this is just the beginning.
